PROBLEM: Repair of five valves with relevant disc and orifice plate erosion and deflection, at the Esso Augusta, Italy refinery. All the valves were not originally manufactured by Remosa.

TECHNICAL DATA:

• regenerated catalyst slide valve RCV 592, hot wall design
• spent catalyst slide valve RCV 593, hot wall design
• flue gas double disc RCV 503, cold wall design
• flue gas double disc RCV 509, cold wall design
• two port diverter valve, flip-flop type, cold wall design

Setting up the machine tool inside the valve

SOLUTION: In consideration of the specific type of valve and the numerous problems experienced during the valve operating life, Remosa studied and manufactured some portable machine tools that allowed to machine the valve body on site without removing it from the line. Thanks to these tools, the valve overhauling time was remarkably reduced. The repair intervention on five valves was completed in twenty working days. All internal parts were replaced. Also the refractory lining of all valves was repaired, together with cones and seating rings for the two-port diverter valve.
